Privacy Policy

This policy explains what the student-run Korea&You service collects, what is public, and how information is handled.

1. Information We Collect

Account information includes your email address and chosen display name through Firebase Authentication. Optional profile information includes university, length of stay, and country. Content you submit includes public chat messages, community posts, comments, likes, poll votes, uploaded images, and Contact messages.

2. Public Areas

Live chat, community posts, comments, display names, images, and aggregate poll or like counts are public by design. Anonymous posting hides your display name but retains your account identifier privately for ownership and moderation.

3. How We Use Information

Information is used to manage accounts, operate and secure community features, personalize campus content, respond to messages, moderate content, enforce the Terms, and improve the Service. K&U does not sell personal information.

4. Service Providers and Transfers

Google Firebase provides authentication, databases, and file storage. Map and direction links may use OpenStreetMap or Naver. These providers may process data outside Korea, including in the United States, under their own policies. Information may also be disclosed when legally required or necessary to protect users and the Service.

5. Analytics

Analytics are disabled unless K&U configures an approved public collection endpoint. When enabled, the app sends only a sanitized page name, event type (page view, unique day, or visible active minute), and calendar day. It excludes account identifiers, message or post content, search terms, Firebase data, full query strings, and precise location. K&U requires aggregate analytics records to be deleted within 30 days.

6. Cookies and Local Storage

Firebase may use browser storage to keep you signed in. K&U also stores preferences such as theme, selected campus, and device-side vote or like safeguards. The optional analytics hook stores only a daily sent flag and does not create a cross-day identifier.

7. Data Retention

Account and profile data are kept while your account is active. Public posts, chat messages, comments, images, and votes may remain after account deactivation when needed for conversation integrity or moderation. Contact K&U to request account or content deletion. Optional aggregate analytics are retained for no more than 30 days.

8. Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may request access, correction, or deletion of your information or withdraw consent. Send requests through Contact; the volunteer team will respond as promptly as reasonably possible.

9. Children

The Service is not directed at children under 14, and K&U does not knowingly collect their information. Contact the team if you believe a child under 14 has provided personal data.

10. Security

K&U uses Firebase Authentication, ownership rules, validated uploads, and least-privilege database rules. No transmission or storage method is completely secure.

11. Changes and Contact

Policy updates will change the date shown below. Questions or requests can be sent through the Contact section of the portal or a campus site.
